Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling a hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the options are limited since you shall not have root access to the website hosting server, so you may only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They're all actions that are carried out in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Web Hosting
If the web hosting package deal that you’ve chosen throughout the signup procedure comes with SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this feature with only a click inside your Hepsia CP. If you have picked a different plan, the SSH access feature can be included using the Upgrades menu and it will become available right away. All the details which you need connect will be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to modify it whenever you want. All the commands which are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you must use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH regardless of which plan you pick when you sign up. With some plans, the function is offered by default, while with others, it may be added as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You can discover the needed login info in the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You can choose the password that you will use and if you would like, you could change it constantly with a couple of clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands you can use beforehand, since we've listed them along with examples of how they are used to carry out a certain task. As soon as SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is allowed, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You will be able to use SSH to control your content regardless of which VPS servers you select when you sign up, as all our plans provide this feature as standard. You'll not need to add or enable anything manually - the instant your hosting server is prepared and you get the Welcome e mail with the login details, you could connect and begin working on your web sites or any software you want to set up and run on the web server. You shall have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from the other accounts on the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you would like without any restrictions. You could set up any application you need and which shall work on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases efficiently.
